Common questions
Is an order confirmation the same as a receipt?
No. A confirmation records that an order was accepted, which is a different event from money being received. The receipt or payment confirmation is the document that evidences the transfer, and it is the one to keep where proof of payment may matter later.
Why does a payment I made not appear on my statement?
Statements are generated at a cut-off, so a payment made close to that date frequently falls into the next period. Separately, a payment can be received but allocated to the wrong account or reference, in which case it exists on the receiving side without appearing on yours.
Can I pay from a statement instead of an invoice?
It is possible and it is a common source of error, because a closing balance is not the same figure as an amount currently due. The balance may include items not yet payable and exclude charges not yet raised, so the invoice remains the document that states what is owed and when.
